Charity
Founded in the late 1970s, the Emmaus rehabilitation centre has become an important social and cultural hub not only locally (in Capitanata and the rest of Apulia) but also nationally. The Emmaus social cooperative was the first legal entity (Type B) which, from the beginning, set itself the goal of standing alongside the community and anyone in need – according to the community’s invitation to share its spirit. Today, after all these years, Emmaus continues to offer opportunities to young people who have encountered experiences of prison and addiction along their path. Emmaus is in fact one of the largest communities in Italy, which has given a second chance to thousands of men and women who gave up all hope.
